“Witness (1)”
Story:
Sunset settled gently over Bob Straub State Park during the 4th of July celebrations in Pacific City. While a couple hundred people gathered behind me — laughing, drinking, waiting for the fireworks to begin — the shoreline itself felt strangely calm.
I stood alone with my camera and tripod, watching the sun lower into a band of clouds and soften the sky into pinks and pale lavender. From my vantage point, the world felt distant. Fireworks could wait. Noise could wait. For a few quiet minutes, there was only the tide rolling in and the warm glow reflecting across the water.
I passed the time looking through my viewfinder at Haystack Rock in the distance and the birds drifting along the shoreline, letting the moment unfold at its own pace.
“Pastel Thoughts” was photographed during this same evening.
