“Vista House (Wedding)”

Description:
Venturing east from Portland, Vista House at Crown Point stands as the Gateway to the Columbia River Gorge. Built between 1913 and 1922, the octagonal structure rises 733 feet above the Columbia River and provides sweeping views into the Gorge. Just 30 minutes from Portland International Airport, it remains a popular year-round destination.

Story:
I’ve photographed this view from Chanticleer Point in autumn and in fog, but never in summer — the one season when the setting sun turns Vista House and the cliff face to gold. As I set up, something small caught my eye on the distant overlook: a bride and groom standing outside Vista House.

Their presence changed how I experienced the scene. The soft evening light, the river winding west, and that tiny celebration on the cliff turned a familiar landscape into a quiet wedding portrait at a grand scale.

A fitting place to promise a future.
