“Universe Beach”
Story:
The night sky comes to life along the Oregon coast at Pacific City.
The timing for this photograph was incredibly fortunate: a car drove on the beach and parked in a location in back of and to the right of me. Its headlights were left on while supplies were brought out to set up a campfire.
Using a long shutter speed (25 seconds) to capture the stars (you can’t see that many with just the naked eye), the car’s headlights unintentionally simulated off-camera lighting – perfectly illuminated the landscape.
But!
Had the headlights been on during the full 25 second exposure, the photo would have been too bright. (Timing was absolutely essential for this photograph to be exposed correctly.)
Very lucky! (Some might call it “dumb” luck!)
Stars mirrored in the shoreline, boats dotting the horizon.
Welcome to “Universe Beach”.
