“Trinity”
Description:
Photographed just before sunrise in Tillamook Bay near Garibaldi, Oregon, this image features the Three Graces sea stacks rising from calm coastal waters. Soft pastel light paints the sky, while seabirds perch atop the rugged rocks, capturing the peaceful beauty of Oregon’s coastline along Highway 101.
Story:
Everything good comes in threes. It’s a number with weight — symbolic, holy, and a favorite in the visual arts because odd numbers create natural balance. But in this photograph, only two of the Three Graces decided to appear. The third Grace clearly had other plans.
In the end, that worked to my advantage. This particular grouping of sea stacks and rocks felt more harmonious than the full trio. That’s the beauty of photography: the artist gets to choose the interpretation. It’s why I arrive long before the light turns magical — to explore, experiment, and discover the compositions that resonate most.
