“Tower of Babel (BW)”

Description:
The Tower of Babel rises sharply from the desert floor in Arches National Park. Composed of Entrada Sandstone and shaped by millennia of erosion, this formation stands near the Courthouse Towers district and serves as one of the first major landmarks along the park’s scenic drive.

Story:
Why do they call it the “Tower of Babel”?

To me, it looks more like a ship. I see the silhouette of a person, a kind of figurehead carved into the bow of a sailing vessel.

This enormous rock formation in Arches National Park sits close to the road and is one of the first prominent sights every visitor sees as they drive into the park on their way to more popular attractions such as Delicate Arch.

That morning the sky was a cloudless purple-blue.
The sandstone was a subdued shade of orange.
The wind was light, hardly a whisper.
The cool desert air felt invigorating.
