“Sun’s Encore”
Description:
Located a few miles north of Pacific City, Tierra Del Mar offers a peaceful coastal vantage point with broad views of the Pacific Ocean. Its open shoreline and frequent cloud layers create subtle, fleeting sunset moments that reflect the quiet character of this lesser-known coastal community.
Story:
As if giving one last performance, the sun slipped beneath a band of clouds only to reappear for a brief, glowing encore before vanishing below the horizon.
I captured this image during one of my abstract photography sessions, when I focus on the interplay of sunlight and ocean — the way light stretches, ripples, and breaks into patterns across the water’s surface. I had been fully absorbed in the rhythm of the waves and the shifting colors when the light suddenly vanished. I hadn’t realized there were clouds hugging the horizon at all.
Then the sun dipped into view again, lighting the water in a soft beam of gold.
I quickly adjusted my settings and waited for the moment.
It was fleeting, but worth every second.
The encore was brief, but beautiful.
