“Sandstone Swirl”
Story:
Clouds illuminate with color as a new day begins at Cape Kiwanda.
Cape Kiwanda, unlike many other capes along the Oregon coast that are made of basalt, is made entirely out of sandstone. Carved, sculpted, and broken by the forces of nature, the cape is a photographer’s buffet.
“Sandstone Swirl” is a photograph I happen to discover one morning while scouting out the location and composition for the “Dragon’s Tail” series.
Sandstone is such a colorful rock.
This photo shows off the variety of color. From brown to orange and gray. Those colors compliment the soft pinks and purples in the clouds and the blue in the sky.
