“Sand and Water”

Description:
This abstract photograph was created using intentional camera movement along the Oregon Coast. The image reduces the beach to color bands of sand and shoreline, reflecting the region’s expansive sandy coastline shaped by wave action, sediment deposition, and ongoing coastal erosion.

Story:
The beach was quiet, softened by the slow pull of the tide. As I moved the camera with intention, the scene reduced itself to its simplest forms: the pale beige of sand below and the cool blue of the shoreline above.

This wasn’t a literal beachscape so much as the memory of one: blurred, muted, and distilled into two elemental fields. Earth below, water above. Two classical forces meeting at the edge of the Oregon Coast, distilled into color.

Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) has a way of stripping a landscape down to its essentials. It replaces edges with motion and detail with tone, letting the elements speak through color rather than contours. In this photograph, the meeting of sand and water becomes a quiet exchange between stability and movement, permanence and change.
