“Passing Storm”
Description:
Winter clouds sweep over Pacific City on the Oregon Coast, where Cape Kiwanda and the Nestucca River Estuary meet a wide stretch of beach. This area is known for powerful Pacific storms, fast-changing light, and dramatic coastal weather. It sits within the traditional lands of the Nestucca and Tillamook people.
Story:
A passing winter storm at Pacific City stirred the ocean into motion, dusted the foothills with snow, and transformed the sky into a shifting sea of clouds. Along the Oregon Coast, storms are unpredictable; they can just as easily bring hazards as they can bring extraordinary beauty. Staying home is always the safest choice, yet storms have a way of offering moments you’d never witness otherwise.
On this evening I wasn’t in danger, only aware that the atmosphere was in one of its rare, dramatic moods. Light broke through in scattered gold, clouds rolled like waves over the hills, and the landscape felt newly revealed.
Clouds like waves; sun like gold. The storm passed, and this was the quiet it left behind.
Photographed the same day as Kiwanda Storm.
