“Land Bridge”
Description:
Bathed in the quiet blue twilight of a Nordic winter dawn, “Land Bridge” overlooks a snow-covered wooden home in Pyykkimettä Park framed by frost-laden pines and the vast, frozen expanse of Lake Näsijärvi in Tampere, Finland.
Story:
I came alone to this spot, and was alone when I took this shot. It was the day after the first of the New Year, and I standing in a field of snow at the edge of a park overlooking a frozen Finnish lake. It was around 9 AM yet it felt as if I should have still been in bed — the long night dulling the senses.
You could literally step out onto the lake and reach the islands. No need to swim in freezing black waters. The real estate of Finland grows when the lakes freeze over. It’s surreal to see water disappear into ice, making what was once a country of 100,000 lakes into a land of terraformed winter delight.
