“Golden Guards”
Description:
Mount Hood rises 11,249 feet above Oregon’s Hood River Valley and dominates the landscape around Parkdale. This view along Laurance Lake Drive captures the mountain’s early-season snowpack set against a patchwork of evergreen forests and larch trees turning gold in mid-autumn.
Story:
Juxtaposed against the evergreens, these bright yellow larches stand like soldiers at attention in front of palace gates leading toward the throne of Mount Hood in the distance.
These “golden guards” symbolically mark the end of one season and the beginning of a long, cold winter in the mountain wilderness they silently defend.
