“Glade Creek Mill”
Description:
The Glade Creek Grist Mill at Babcock State Park is a fully operable mill completed in 1976. Built as a tribute to the original mill that once stood along Glade Creek long before the area became a state park. The mill remains a popular photography destination, especially in autumn. This photograph, however, was made in spring.
Story:
The Glade Creek Grist Mill at Babcock State Park in West Virginia is surrounded by a color palette that belies the time of year: spring.
The leaves haven’t fully matured, yet their light, airy tones give the scene an autumn-like appearance. Autumn is certainly the season when most photographs of this mill are made.
You bet I would have been here in the fall as well, but I was passing through on my way to meet family in neighboring Virginia, having just wrapped up a tour of family sights in West Virginia with cousins from Ohio.
Curious to see what the mill looked like in spring, I was pleasantly surprised to discover there was far more here than just green.
