“Forever Kingdom”

Basking in the golden evening sun, the iconic red-sandstone ruins of Heidelberg Castle rise dramatically above a sea of lush green foliage. Captured from Scheffel Terrace in the castle gardens, “Forever Kingdom” showcases the romantic, enduring silhouette of this historic German landmark flying the flag of Baden-Württemberg under a late spring sky.
Story:
It was the first night of my visit to Heidelberg to see the city my dad fell in love with over 50 years ago when he was stationed in the US Army at Heidelberg. Heidelberg Castle was located just behind where I was staying (Lotte Hostel), and provided me with the perfect opportunity to take in views of the city after having arrived from Frankfurt.
Heidelberg Castle with its red sandstone construction radiates in the glow of the sun and pops against the green of the forest. Now a ruins, brought about during past conflicts, it welcomes tourists instead of nobility. The flag flown is that of the German state Baden-Württemberg, where Heidelberg is located.
A part of me wishes to see the castle fully restored, but it being in ruins is maybe better. Even in this state, it still is an imposing and iconic symbol that commands attention.
