“Foam Lines”
Description:
Foam trails stretch across the beach at Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City, Oregon, as winter storm clouds gather over the coast. This view captures Haystack Rock, low tide reflections, and the sculpted sandstone headland formed over millions of years by wind, waves, and shifting coastal forces.
Story:
Ocean foam streaks the sand as storm clouds gather over the Oregon coast in Pacific City. Winter mornings like this are quiet. The beach is empty of dory fishermen, and the stillness feels complete. It is one of my favorite times to visit.
You can lose yourself in thought on mornings like this. Stress steps aside for a while. The shoreline changes with the tide, and at low water the beach can turn mirror-like, reflecting the sky in perfect silence.
But on this day the sky was restless. Dark clouds churned with energy, and rain felt moments away. A line of foam from a retreating wave pulled my attention toward the horizon, where Haystack Rock and Cape Kiwanda seem forever locked in a tug-of-war over who commands the view.
The morning had everything I love about this place. Powerful. Dynamic. Wet. Oregon.
