“Fire and Water”
Description:
This abstract photograph was created using intentional camera movement during a sunset on the Oregon Coast. Warm light from the evening sky blends with cooler tones from the Pacific Ocean, producing horizontal bands of color that reflect the region’s coastal atmospheric conditions.
Story:
Above, the clouds carried a fiery glow, stretched into horizontal bands of light as I moved the camera with intention. Below, the ocean settled into a cool steel-blue wash, its motion echoing through the frame.
This wasn’t a literal sunset so much as the memory of one: blurred, softened, and distilled into color and motion. Fire above, water below. Two ancient forces often seen as opposites, pulled briefly into harmony along the Oregon Coast, distilled into color.
Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) reduces the landscape to its simplest conversation. It turns movement into form, separating color from detail and revealing the structure beneath the scene. In this photograph, fire and water meet in quiet equilibrium.
