“Dead Bird”
Description:
A glassy lake mirrors the fiery gradients of a Finnish midnight sun, casting deep orange, coral, and violet across the Scandinavian summer sky. Silhouetted against the glowing water and evening clouds, a quiet dock and a windless bird decoy create a moment of profound stillness and tongue-in-cheek tranquility at Lake Nummijärvi.
Story:
The bird is dead. Dead as it was calm. Calm is at was clear. The reflection on the lake mirrored the sky above where birds drifted across the sky in one last dance before sleeping under the twilight of the midnight sun on a Finnish lake.
In order to prevent birds from roosting on the dock and making a mess, my friend Frans installed a fake bird that swayed in the wind, but now lay limp as we witnessed the best sunset I’d seen during my week long stay at their summer cottage.
