“Mine!”
Description:
Photographed at McPhillips Beach near Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City, Oregon, this lively scene captures seagulls splashing and squabbling in the surf. Wings spread wide and calls echoing through the salty air, the moment showcases the playful—and competitive—spirit of Oregon Coast wildlife along the edge of the Pacific.
Story:
Phew! Talk about hangry! These seagulls were all business in the evening light as I crouched low to photograph them, trying not to get my butt wet while edging closer to the shoreline. The birds didn’t give two hoots about me. Their focus was locked on food, rivals and whatever scrap of ocean life had washed in with the tide.
Because they were so absorbed in their frenzy, I was able to slip into their world for a few minutes and capture them in full character. Wings flared, voices raised, feet splashing in the shallows. Pure seagull chaos. It felt like watching a tiny kingdom run on attitude, appetite and entitlement.
Mine!
What’s mine is mine,
What’s yours is mine,
Everything is mine,
Mine! Mine! Mine!
