“First Quarter”
Story:
The moon is shrouded in half sunlight and half the darkness of space in this First Quarter Moon.
Photographed just after sunset on the Oregon coast, the Quarter Moon is reminiscent of the Ying-Yang symbol: a conceptualization of dualism. Ying-Yang literally meaning “Dark-Light”. The darkness, a dark inky navy blue, consumes most of the photograph while the illuminated lunar surface provides a sense of stability – something the eye can rest on.
It’s almost as if you can see the moon in its entirety even though only half is visible. Roughly 7 days after a New Moon, the First Quarter Moon, like all the Lunar Phases, is an ancient reminder of our place in the Cosmos.
