“Clearing Break”
Description:
A subdued winter sunset shows Haystack Rock and Cape Kiwanda reflected in the glistening sand. Photographed from Pacific City, Oregon. This beach is known for dory fishing, surfing, and whale watching. It sits along the Three Capes Scenic Route, roughly halfway between Lincoln City and Tillamook.
Story:
After a storm-filled day on the Oregon coast, the clouds finally began to loosen their grip as the sun moved toward the horizon.
The evening had seemed destined for disappointment — too many clouds sitting heavy on the edge of the sea. Earlier, it was impossible to know what the sky would decide. But I arrived with an open mind, ready for whatever unfolded.
I had just come down from the big sand dune nearby when I noticed the reflection on the beach. The sand had become a perfect mirror, untouched by foot or paw. It was mesmerizing, a sheet of light stretching out before me.
Standing there, taking it in, I realized the clouds were slowly beginning to clear. They swirled and drifted apart just enough for the faint outline of the sun to appear, offering a quiet promise after a day full of storms.
