“Barnacle Arch”

Description:
A natural sandstone arch at Cape Kiwanda shows how wind, waves, and erosion sculpt the Oregon Coast. Barnacles cover the shaded interior, exposed briefly between tides. Photographed at Pacific City, this scene captures the rugged shoreline and shifting water patterns that define this iconic coastal landmark

Story:
Water threads itself through a sandstone arch worn thin by centuries of weather, its edges softened yet still stubborn against the tide.

Barnacles cling to the dim interior, closed tight in the hush before the sea returns. In another moment they will stir awake, opening their shells to meet the world again.

Inside the arch the light is quieter, a small cathedral for creatures with shells. The ocean becomes the hymn.

This place is not mine; I am only passing through, one more visitor between tides.

But the barnacles, patient and unmoving, hold fast to the walls. This is their doorway, their shelter, their arch.
