“Rainbow Eucalyptus (2)”

The colorful inner bark of a rainbow eucalyptus on the island of Maui.

A plane ride over from the Mainland provided me with the serendipitous opportunity to socialize with a talented color pencil artist who comes to Maui every winter with her husband.

After telling her about my abstract photography, she mentioned she had seen in one of the local galleries, a photograph of rainbow eucalyptus that was abstract.

I had never heard of rainbow eucalyptus prior to our conversation and so the idea of photographing this colorful tree intrigued me.

There was a grove of rainbow eucalyptus on the road toward the summit of Haleakalā. Several were 4 to 5 feet or so in diameter.

I found a large one that provided the widest range of colors – perfect for photography.
